7 Psychological Money Saving Tricks - How to Save More Money Each Month!
You could save £70 a month just by changing this one thing in your kitchen
Finding little ways to cut costs and shave money off our bills is always a good thing.
But often researching ways to do this isn’t something everyone has time to do – so it’s always great when a little nugget of wisdom drops into your lap.
So if you want to save a bit more cash every month, you may be interested to find out you could save £70 a month simply by changing the temperature of your fridge.
Food waste charity WRAP have revealed that most of the UK’s fridges are set to too high a temperature, meaning our food goes off too soon.
According to them, most across the country are set to around 7°C, while the recommended temp is between 0 and 5°C. And by turning it down, we could ensure that our food stays fresher for longer.
And given that the average family throws away around £70 worth of food that’s gone off too soon, it could be a real game-changer when it comes to saving money.
Helen White, from WRAP’s Love Food Hate Waste initiative, spoke to the Huffington Post. She explained, “Our fridges are often too hot for our food to handle, which means that milk and other food items are going off too soon and getting thrown away,
“We wouldn’t chuck money in the bin, but the average UK family wastes £70 a month by wasting food that could have been eaten.”
Helen also revealed that many households make the mistake of putting foods in to the fridge before they’ve fully cooled down – e.g leftovers. And apparently, this also increases our fridge’s temperature – therefore making it harder to keep our foods fresh.
Leaving the fridge door open unnecessarily is also a big culprit for allowing the fridge to get too warm – so make sure it’s shut as soon as possible.
Over £15 billion worth of food is thrown away every year in the UK – so if we can ensure that we throw away less food by reducing our fridge’s temperature, it seems like a good place to start when it comes to reducing waste.
