Woman pays for items before giving birth at Walmart checkout
Woman Gives Birth In Walmart Checkout Line, Pays for Her Merchandise First
Employees at a Walmart in Payson, Utah say register 11 will never be the same.
On Sunday morning, a pregnant woman was shopping with her family when she began complaining that she didn't feel well, reports Fox 13 Now.
She alerted a manager, who could tell she was experiencing labor pains and immediately dialed 9-1-1. Despite the fact that the manager told her not to worry about paying for the merchandise in her cart, the woman insisted on heading to register 11 to pay for the items.
"In about 15 minutes we went from having a little bit of [a] stomach problem to delivering a baby," store manager Dustin Haight told reporters. "The funny thing is that the customer was down on her knees and she insisted on paying for her merchandise and we're like you know that's just not important ... literally right after she paid for her merchandise, they rolled her over and she began to give birth."
Luckily, store members and fellow shoppers jumped into action, grabbing blankets and holding up sheets as the woman delivered a healthy baby boy. Eventually, EMTs arrived on the scene and took mom and baby to the hospital. "She was very calm she did very well — it was her third child so she had experienced childbirth before so I don't think she was as nervous about it other than it was at Walmart," EMT and Payson Fire Rescue assistant chief Terry Reilly told Fox 13 Now.
Haight says the store plans to gift the new mom with diapers and formula. As for register 11? "I think we've renamed it register baby—so whenever we call for help on register 11 it will be now register baby," Haight said.
