6 Trends To Try From Christopher Kane’s AW15 Show
It's one of the most eagerly awaited shows of LFW and Christopher Kane's razor-sharp AW15 collection didn't disappoint.
It’s one of the most eagerly awaited shows of LFW and Christopher Kane’s razor-sharp AW15 collection didn’t disappoint. ‘I wanted a feeling of attraction and sensuality in the collection,’ he said. ‘Something sexual but not grotesque.’ Featuring a thunderbolt zigzag pattern that he said was like an ‘electric orgasm’ current (ooh er), the show was a masterful balance between restraint and seduction.
The great Scot’s shows are always a trend-fest, with ideas flowing faster than even the most studious of the FROWers can absorb them – so thank your lucky flatforms for our handy guide to the key looks. Pay attention, high street…
1. Razor-Sharp Evening Tailoring
From the black coatdress with blue and scarlet velvet lapels that opened the show to Kane’s midnight blue velvet homage to the Le Smoking tux suit, the collection was full of noir-ish suiting that seemed to be crying out for aPulp Fictionremake.
2. The Sexy Poloneck
Yes, really. The sinuous red velvet sleeveless dress with slashes of petrol blue showed that with a bit of arm action, a high neckline can be totally seductive.
3. Sheer Ruffles
We’ve seen flounces and asymmetric ruffles emerge elsewhere in London but Kane’s featherlight organza dresses in layers of scarlet, blue and black were something else.
Spring’s Seventies influence found its way into the collection with a darker disco edge, via a second-skin glittery emerald green dress and the metallic knife-pleated skirts peeping out from underneath the lace finale dresses.
5. Lace And Patchwork
The Kane studio team all took life drawing classes and the nude model sketches were combined to make what Kane called ‘lovers’ lace’ – embracing figures all pieced together in different shades of Swiss lace to form the finale dresses, a genius Kane take on the patchwork trend spotted on other catwalks.
6. The Safety Buckle Is His Thing
The plastic safety buckle Kane has made his signature across his bag collections was brought on to clothes, fastening everything from jackets to dress waistbands and jewellery. Kane described the buckles as ‘sexually slotted into place’. Who knew a safety feature could be naughty?
